HYDERABAD: The department of Arab studies at English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu), Hyderabad, is holding a two-day national seminar on “Arabic Literature in Jordan: A Modern Perspective”. Scholars of Arabic literature from across India have gathered to examine Jordanian Arabic literature, an area that has often been overlooked in academic discussions.
The seminar will bring attention to the contributions of Jordanian writers and strengthen intellectual ties between India and Jordan. The inaugural session was held on Monday at the EFLU auditorium, presided over by vice-chancellor Prof. Haribandi Lakshmi.
Prof. Syed Rashid Naseem, head of the department of Arab Studies and seminar director, opened the session with an introductory address. Prof. Mohammad Ayyub, former head of the department of Arabic at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, spoke about the historical and cultural connections between Arabic and Indian languages.
In her remarks, Prof. Lakshmi commended the department for its efforts to spotlight Jordanian literature and encouraged scholars to explore the work of Indian authors writing in Arabic.
