A 15-year-old student named Mihir from Kerala took his own life on January 15 after enduring severe bullying and ragging at a leading private school in Kochi. The boy, who had been facing constant mistreatment, took his own life by jumping from the 26th floor while returning home from school. His mother, heartbroken by the loss, shared the painful details of the abuse, including being forced to “lick toilet seats” and having his “head pushed into the toilet while it was flushed.”
The heartbroken mother has filed an official complaint at the Hill Palace Police Station in Thripunithura and has also sent a petition to the Child Commission, urging a thorough investigation into the bullying her son faced. The petition highlights allegations of mistreatment by the Vice Principal of his former school, raising further concerns about the severity of the bullying.
In a tearful Facebook post, the mother expressed, “I am a grieving mother fighting for justice for my son, who was once a happy, active, and loving child. On that tragic day, my son came home from school at 2:45 PM, and by 3:50 PM, my world came crashing down…”
Investigation infolded details of the abuse
To understand why her son took such a drastic step, the mother and family reached out to the boy’s friends and went through his social media.The search revealed a devastating picture of the abuse he had been facing. According to the mother, her son was physically attacked, taunted for his skin colour, verbally mistreated, and subjected to unimaginable humiliation. This included being forced into the washroom, made to lick a toilet seat, and having his head pushed into a flushing toilet.
The mother also revealed a chilling screenshot of a chat that surfaced after her son’s death, where some students allegedly celebrated his passing.
Claims of school cover-up and public outrage
After the boy’s death, his friends created an Instagram page calling for justice, but it was reportedly taken down under pressure from the school. The mother accuses the school of trying to suppress the truth, saying they only informed her that the matter had been forwarded to the police.
“They didn’t stop the cruelty even after his death,” the mother said in grief. “When I approached the school with evidence and demanded accountability, they just told me the matter was forwarded to the police. I firmly believe they are trying to cover up these events to protect the school’s image.”
A mother’s plea for justice
In a heart-wrenching plea, the mother called for justice, saying, “I am begging for justice for my son. His death cannot be in vain. Those responsible for this barbaric act must face the full force of the law, and there must be changes to prevent any other child from suffering as my son did.”
