Uttarakhand CM Dhami said that preparations for implementing the UCC in the state are almost complete.
Uttarakhand is going to create history on 26 January. It is being told that on 26 January, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to implement a Uniform Civil Court (UCC). In the meeting held this morning, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the UCC rules. There is to be a mock drill of all the concerned departments regarding UCC in the state on Tuesday. Apart from this, training has been going on for the last several weeks regarding the UCC portal.
There has been no official confirmation of the implementation of UCC yet, but the way Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has set the deadline of the beginning of 2025. As per sources, the 26th is being considered as the day of implementation of UCC. But even before this, from the opposition to Muslim religious leaders, everyone is criticizing the Uttarakhand government regarding this.
What will change with the implementation of UCC?
-Marriage registration will be mandatory.
-There will be a uniform law for divorce irrespective of caste, religion or sect.
-Polygamy will be banned.
-The marriage age of girls will be 18 years irrespective of their caste or religion.
-All religions will have the right to adopt children, but a child from another religion cannot be adopted.
-The practices of Halala and Iddat will be stopped. Girls will get an equal share in inheritance as boys.
-Live-in relationships will have to be registered. An Aadhaar card will be mandatory. Couples between 18 and 21 years will have to give consent letters from their parents.
-There are some such rules in these laws due to which there is a possibility of opposition.
