A 31-year-old woman from Nilaji village died after giving birth at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) here on Tuesday.
Anjali Patil was admitted to the hospital on Monday night. Doctors delivered her of a girl child through Caesarean section.
The woman was supposed to deliver on January 22 but it was delayed as she did not report labour pain, her family members said.
Doctors told them that the woman suffered sudden variations in blood pressure and died, the family members said.
Officers from the APMC Yard Police Station visited the hospital.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Director of BIMS Ashok Kumar Shetty has denied any medical negligence.
“Our doctors suspect that the woman died due to amniotic fluid embolism (AFE). It has probably occurred due to the fact that she suffered seizures and low BP after delivery. BIMS doctors conduct around 10,000 deliveries in a year and around 40% are Caesarean sections. Conditions like AFE are life threatening and it is very difficult to save patients who suffer such conditions,” he said.
