Celebrity MasterChef: Farah Khan’s ‘Holi is favourite festival of chhapris’ comment sparks controversy; Netizens react

Celebrity MasterChef has been grabbing attention for celebrity revelations and impressive cooking skills. However, this time, the show has found itself embroiled in controversy. Bollywood director-choreographer Farah Khan has found herself at the center of controversy after a remark she made on the cooking reality show Celebrity MasterChef went viral. In a recent episode, Farah stated that Holi is the “favorite” festival of “chhapris,” a slang term commonly used to refer to rowdy young men.
As soon as clips of her remark began circulating online, social media was flooded with backlash. Several users condemned her for making a sweeping statement, urging her to apologize, while some even demanded action against her.
Meanwhile, some netizens came to her defense, stating that her remark wasn’t entirely unfounded, as numerous incidents of intoxicated men harassing women during Holi have been reported across the country over the years.
For those who may not know, during a conversation with contestant Gaurav Khanna on Celebrity MasterChef, Farah Khan turned to the camera and remarked, “Chhapri logo ka favourite festival hota hai Holi.”
Reacting to the video, self-proclaimed film critic and actor-filmmaker Kamaal R Khan shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), claiming, “Farah Khan called those people Chapri, who do celebrate HOLI.”
One user responded to the remark, writing, “So, according to @TheFarahKhan, even @iamsrk is a ‘Chhapri’ since he celebrates Holi every year at his bungalow.”

Meanwhile, another user defended Farah, clarifying that her statement was being misinterpreted. They pointed out that she didn’t label everyone who celebrates Holi as a ‘Chhapri’ but merely stated that it is their ‘favorite’ festival.

“I think you are misinterpreting it Boys play Holi very freely, that’s why she is calling them Chapri because there is no one to stop them,” wrote a netizen.
Here’s how others responded to Farah’s remark:
Farah has yet to address the controversy. She is currently appearing on Celebrity MasterChef alongside judges Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna.
