Anantapur: The windshield of the helicopter that took former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Nyamaddala in Ramagiri mandal of Satya Sai district on Tuesday got damaged, as crowds surged towards the helipad and the chopper on its arrival.
Police remained helpless and could not control the surging crowds. In the melee, the windshield of the helicopter suffered damage.
Despite the ruckus, Jagan Mohan Reddy got down from the helicopter and took a four wheeler to travel for three kilometres and reach Papireddypalli village, where he consoled the family of a YSRC worker Lingamaiah who had been killed a few days ago.
As the crowds remained surrounding the helipad, whose windshield had been damaged and police failed to provide protection, the pilot chose to take off to ensure the safety of the helicopter even before the former CM could return to the helipad.
As a result, Jagan Mohan Reddy had to return to Bangalore by road.
YSRC leaders have condemned the negligence of the state government in not ensuring adequate police presence at the helipad, though the former chief minister is a Z+ category protectee.
“This is not the first time such a lapse has occurred. On February 19 during Jagan’s visit to Guntur’s Mirchi Yard to support farmers, the state government did not deploy a single police official, despite advance intimation,” a party leader charged.
The leader said this exposes a larger political conspiracy to undermine the former chief minister’s public engagements.
