Hyderabad: AIIMS Bibinagar has launched yellow fever vaccination services under its department of community and family medicine, becoming the second authorised centre in Telangana to offer this essential facility. Many countries require travellers to furnish proof of yellow fever vaccination for entry.
Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease prevalent in parts of Africa and South America. Though there is no cure, a single dose of the vaccine provides lifelong immunity.
At AIIMS Bibinagar, the vaccine will be administered every Monday between 9 am and 11 am, by prior appointment. Travellers can book a slot by emailing [email protected].
On the opening day, individuals from both Karnataka and Telangana availed of the facility, indicating its potential usefulness for travellers across neighbouring states.
Travellers must carry their passports at the time of vaccination, as they will be issued the international certificate of vaccination, commonly known as the yellow card, which is mandatory for visiting yellow fever-affected countries. The vaccine is priced at `300.
The vaccine may not be suitable for all. Individuals allergic to eggs, pregnant women, persons with HIV/AIDS or those undergoing cancer treatment or immune-suppressing therapies are advised to consult the centre beforehand. In such cases, a medical exemption certificate may be issued upon evaluation.
Prof. Vikas Bhatia, executive director of AIIMS Bibinagar, noted that the launch would help ensure safer international travel for citizens. Dr Abhishek Arora, medical superintendent, added that the service would adhere strictly to all government and WHO protocols, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for recipients.
