The State government has granted administrative sanction for a ₹10-crore project to widen a 350-metre-long stretch of Aluva Market Road.
Thus, the bottlenecked road from Karothukuzhy Junction up to the service road of NH 544 will be widened to 12 metres, with a 7.50-metre tarred carriageway. Footpaths would be built on either side, Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas said in a release.
As per estimates, a total of 25 cents are needed for the road-widening project. This alone is estimated to cost ₹6.75 crore. The congestion on the bottlenecked stretch often increases when vehicles from both Ernakulam and Perumbavoor directions use the stretch to avoid the Aluva metro station premises. Apart from decongesting the stretch, the project would also improve the commercial prospects of the Aluva market, the Minister said.
