Justin Bieber Backs Chris Brown After $6.7M Bail Release

Justin Bieber supports Chris Brown yet again, even after the No Guidance singer was arrested in London on Thursday, May 15, over some serious assault charges.

Brown, 36, got busted for allegedly attacking music producer Abe Diaw at TAPE nightclub back in February 2023. The charges? “Grievous bodily harm.” Not exactly minor stuff.

But despite that, Bieber isn’t backing down. On Thursday, May 22, just days after Brown made headlines for being granted bail, the singer posted an Instagram photo of himself deplaning from a private jet. His caption read, “Cook, remain humble. ❤️” Thousands of fans flooded the comments, but one stood out, Bieber dropped a simple “welcome home.” The comment blew up with over 16,400 likes at the time.

The two artists go way back. Bieber and Brown first linked up musically in 2011 for “Next to You,” then teamed up again in 2019 on “Don’t Check on Me,” featuring Ink. Their friendship clearly runs deeper than just a couple of tracks. Bieber’s support here isn’t new,  he’s been hyping Brown for years, even calling him a mix of Michael Jackson and Tupac Shakur back in 2019.

At that time, Bieber also addressed Brown’s criminal past, most notably the 2009 felony assault against Rihanna,  in a long-winded post urging fans not to ignore Brown’s talent. “The people who have overlooked this man’s talent because of a mistake he made. You need to reevaluate!” he wrote. “Love you @chrisbrown”o He also added, “You will miss what you had in front of you the whole time… trust me, watch, you will see.”

But Brown’s latest case is brutal. In November 2023, Abe Diaw filed a lawsuit claiming Brown used “crushing blows” to hit him in the head. According to court docs, Diaw allegedly suffered serious injuries, lacerations on his head, torn leg ligaments, permanent physical damage, and severe emotional distress. The weapon? A bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila.

Initially, things weren’t looking good for Brown. On Friday, May 16, he was denied bail. But by Wednesday, May 21, the Southwark Crown Court granted it , at a steep price. Brown had to cough up $6.7 million total, with $4.5 million of that due immediately and the rest to follow within a week.

The court didn’t just set a price tag, though. Judge Tony Baumgartner laid down extra terms: Brown has to report his residence to the court, can’t contact Diaw in any way, and is banned from visiting TAPE nightclub, the scene of the alleged attack. He also isn’t allowed to apply for travel documents to leave the U.K.

Still, there’s a silver lining for Brown. Under the conditions of his bail, he’s allowed to go on tour,  which is good news for fans. His Breezy Bowl tour is going ahead as scheduled. The tour kicks off in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 8, with a sold-out show that also marks the 20th anniversary of Brown’s music career. So while he’s still facing legal battles, professionally, he’s rolling full steam ahead.

Bieber’s public support only adds fuel to the fire. Some people think it’s loyal. Others say it’s tone, deaf considering Brown’s violent history. Either way, Bieber clearly doesn’t care what anyone thinks. He’s standing by his friend just like he has before.

So yeah, Justin Bieber supports Chris Brown again, even as Brown faces accusations of brutal assault involving a tequila bottle and career-threatening legal action. Whether you think it’s brave or problematic, Bieber’s “welcome home” message isn’t just a casual comment. It’s a statement, and it’s loud.
