Training Held for New Junior Lecturers

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Intermediate Education will conduct a one-week training programme for newly recruited junior lecturers (JLs) to familiarise them with board procedures and enhance classroom teaching.

Though appointment orders were issued in March, training was delayed due to examinations, valuation, and the results process. An official said, “The training isn’t mandatory, but most lecturers selected through TGPSC are postgraduates. Many also have BEd degrees and teaching experience. The programme is intended to help them transition to Intermediate-level teaching.”

Supplementary exam valuation is underway, and many new lecturers are involved in it along with admission duties. As the academic year begins in the first week of June, training will be scheduled accordingly. Subject experts and senior faculty will guide the lecturers on effective pedagogy and classroom management.

“Training must be organised at least at the district level and suit local needs,” said K. Krishna Kumar, president of the Junior Colleges Principals Association. “Intermediate education follows a distinct pattern and prepares students for competitive exams. Early orientation is necessary.” A newly recruited lecturer said, “Teaching Intermediate students is different. This training is essential, especially after a long gap since the last recruitment in 2012.” Senior lecturers welcomed the initiative.
