The IPL 2025 season took a dramatic turn as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and ended their chances of reaching the playoffs. The match, held at Chepauk on Wednesday evening, saw Chennai lose for the fifth time in a row at their home ground. With this defeat, CSK — a five-time champion under MS Dhoni’s leadership — is now out of the playoff race for the second year in a row.
This is a big setback for CSK, a team known for its strong performance at Chepauk. Last season, they were also eliminated after losing an important match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Punjab Kings shine, CSK struggles
In the match, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and young batter Prabhsimran Singh both scored half-centuries to guide their team to victory. Sam Curran played a strong role for CSK by scoring 88 runs in the first innings, but his efforts went in vain.
The star of the match was spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 4 wickets, including a stunning hat-trick, to crush CSK’s hopes. With this win, Punjab Kings moved to second place in the points table, while CSK remained at the bottom.
