Kourtney Kardashian is done pretending the school system makes sense.
In fact, she straight-up called it “dated” and said she doesn’t see the point in sending kids to a traditional classroom anymore. On the Khloe in Wonder Land podcast hosted by her sister Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney opened up about her parenting mindset and her decision to push back on norms, including how she raises her kids.
She shares three kids, Mason, 15; Penelope, 12; and Reign, 10, with her ex, Scott Disick, and welcomed baby Rocky 18 months ago with her husband, Travis Barker. With four young kids at home (and three stepkids through Travis), Kourtney is seriously thinking about switching things up and embracing homeschooling for good.
It all came out during a deep conversation between the sisters. The two were reflecting on a period when things were tense between Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim. Kourtney said the tension came after she started going to therapy and began setting boundaries. That meant questioning family dynamics, routines, and how they’ve always done things. “I kind of started challenging the ways that we did things… sometimes the way that we just all function,” she said.
But challenging norms isn’t new for her. “I love to just go against the grain,” she admitted. Khloe asked if she does it just to be different, and Kourtney made it clear: “No, I think living authentically is not conforming to whatever it is.”
That “whatever it is” includes how society handles education. “Let’s say the school system,” she said. “I’ll think, ‘Why do kids f****** go to school?’ Truly. It’s so dated.” She’s not joking, she’s ready to completely rethink it. And surprisingly, Khloe agreed with her. “Oh, I’m such a homeschool person. So don’t even get me going,” Khloe responded.
Kourtney said her kids have even shown her videos of successful people whose children don’t attend regular schools, and it sparked even more doubt. “And then I’m like, ‘What’s the goal here? You want to do homeschool? Let’s do it!’ Or whatever it is,” she added. For her, parenting is all about tuning into what works for her family, not just following systems blindly.
And it’s not just about schooling. Kourtney also opened up about how she handles her kids when they’re sick. While most parents reach for Tylenol or ibuprofen, she goes the natural route. “I will like to nurse the fever of my kids versus giving Tylenol or ibuprofen. I just want to do that,” she said. “Whatever it is, there are so many things like that where I feel like I kind of do… maybe the world generally does maybe more of what I do, but in the United States [it’s different].”
Her husband, Travis Barker, brings more kids into the mix, Landon, 21; Alabama, 19; and stepdaughter Atiana, 25, from his previous marriage to Shanna Moakler. Together, they’re raising a blended family, which Kourtney admits hasn’t always been easy, but it’s worth it. “Some days I’ve thought, like, ‘Wow, this is really hard blending families.’ But even in the days that are hard, there’s so much more love. It’s such a deeper, richer existence.”
As for being a stepmom, she said she genuinely enjoys it, especially because she doesn’t feel the pressure to take on the discipline role. “I love my role as stepmom, because I don’t feel like it’s up to me to discipline,” she explained. “We’ve kind of allowed each other to, we’ll talk about it; he can handle the harder things. I definitely give advice or try to be a good role model.”
So between questioning the school system, going natural with healthcare, and embracing the chaos of a blended household, Kourtney’s definitely walking her own path. She’s not afraid to be different. She’s not trying to shock anyone, she just truly believes in doing what feels right for her kids, even if it’s the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing.
