Work On Bhubaneswar Ring Road To Begin Within A Month: Minister Prithviraj Harichandan

Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards tackling the state capital’s growing traffic woes, Odisha minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Saturday that construction of the long-awaited Bhubaneswar ring road will commence within a month. Touted as a crucial project for easing congestion and enhancing citywide connectivity, the ring road has been in the planning stages for years and is now set to enter the execution phase.

Sharing key updates, the minister informed that land acquisition is nearing completion and will be finalised in the coming weeks, clearing the way for groundwork to begin. “This project will be a pivotal solution to Bhubaneswar’s traffic challenges and play a vital role in the city’s infrastructure upgrade,” Harichandan said.

The minister further revealed that both carriageways of the ring road will be ready by December this year. The initial focus will be on the busy Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan stretch—one of the city’s most traffic-prone corridors.

In a bid to improve traffic flow, all existing signals along this stretch will be removed. Instead, advanced traffic management technologies, including intelligent traffic systems (ITS) and smart mobility solutions, will be introduced to streamline movement, cut travel times, and enhance road safety.

Alongside the ring road, the government also plans to kick off several other infrastructure projects in and around Bhubaneswar. These include new flyovers, road widening works, and urban bypasses, all aimed at decongesting major routes and improving intra-city connectivity.

“Several large-scale urban mobility initiatives are in the pipeline, and our goal is to complete them within the next two and a half to three years,” Harichandan said, reiterating the government’s commitment to transforming Bhubaneswar into a modern, traffic-resilient, and smart city.
