Harry explained it best in his 2023 tell-all memoir, Spare, even going so far as to refer to William as his “arch nemesis.” He wrote of William, “In some ways he was my mirror, in some ways he was my opposite,” Harry continued, writing, “My beloved brother, my arch nemesis, how had that happened?”
Meghan Markle Plays A Role In Prince Harry and Prince William’s Rift
Whether she wants to be or not, Meghan Markle is, unfortunately, a big factor as to why Harry and William are no longer on speaking terms. The brothers’ feud truly kicked off way back in 2016, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first began dating. The two fell in love hard and fast, with Meghan and Harry even taking an extensive trip to Africa on what was only their third date. It was then that Harry realized he’d found his “soulmate.”
Yet as cute as their dynamic was, the Prince of Wales wasn’t exactly swooning over Harry and Meghan’s romance. In fact, he seemed to not be the biggest fan of Meghan, since rumors began swirling that she had made several of the staff members at the royal household cry due to reports of bullying behavior. As a result, Prince William allegedly pulled Harry aside, and suggested he “slow down” his relationship with Meghan, which he believed was “moving too fast.”
This infuriated Prince Harry, who felt extremely protective of Meghan. Alas, this was allegedly the moment the friction truly began between the brothers, according to royal experts.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Tell-All Interview With Oprah Only Poured Salt Into The Wound
Following Harry and Meghan’s departure from their royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to do a tell-all interview with Oprah, where they shared some damaging claims against the royal family that many of them insist are far from true. Unsurprisingly, their willingness to televise all the family’s dirty laundry for the whole world to see has led to a massive rift between Harry and the rest of his family.
To make matters worse, the spouses did a six-part Netflix special where they continued to badmouth the royals. Yet it seemed as though Harry and his brother had reached the point of no return when the Duke of Sussex released his tell-all memoir, “Spare”, which painted Prince William in quite the negative light.
It’s Unfair To Solely Blame Meghan Markle For The Royal Rift
While Meghan Markle is definitely a factor as to why the brothers are in a seemingly irreparable feud at the moment, it’s unfair to squarely blame her, since Harry and William have always had tension.
“The tensions within the family run much deeper than any one woman’s influence,” said Royal Commentator, Amanda Matta (Per Instyle.) “The cracks were already there. If anything, Meghan’s presence helped Harry process and articulate the ways in which the institution had already failed him.”
