Liam Payne's Drug Case Takes Shocking New Turn

Liam Payne’s Drug Case Takes Shocking New Turn

The tragic death of Liam Payne has taken a sharp legal turn as the final two men accused in connection with the case will officially face trial.

The two suspects, waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, 25, and former hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra, 24, have been behind bars since January after being accused of supplying drugs to the One Direction star just hours before he fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires last October. Now, Argentina’s prosecution service has confirmed they’ll stand trial on serious drug charges that could land them in prison for up to 15 years.

This latest twist in the Liam Payne drug trial has stunned fans and raised new questions about what really happened in the final moments of the singer’s life. According to prosecutors, the pop icon had used cocaine, both snorted and smoked, “up to a few minutes before his death.” The incident occurred at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where Liam was staying in Room 310. He reportedly fell from the balcony in a heavily intoxicated state after consuming not just cocaine but also alcohol and psychotropic drugs.

A full autopsy revealed the grim details: Payne died from polytrauma, internal bleeding, and external injuries caused by the fall. Toxicology reports were equally disturbing, alcohol levels in his blood hit 2.7 grams per liter, well beyond legal limits, and traces of cocaine, methylecgonine, benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene, and sertraline were all present. That level of drug and alcohol use painted a devastating picture of what Liam was dealing with behind closed doors.

In a statement, Argentina’s public prosecution service confirmed, “The two defendants remanded in custody as part of the court investigation into the circumstances surrounding Liam James Payne’s death will go on trial accused of the crime of selling drugs.” Prosecutors detailed that Paiz and Pereyra had known Payne through their respective jobs, Paiz met him at a Puerto Madero restaurant where he worked as a waiter, and Pereyra had been employed at the very hotel where Liam died.

Despite the heavy charges, Paiz maintains his innocence on the issue of drug dealing. From his jail cell, he spoke to local outlet Infobae, claiming he never sold drugs to Liam. “I don’t know what I’m doing here; I’m a good person,” he said. “I shared drugs with Liam, but I didn’t sell them.”

He described himself as a longtime user, someone who began smoking marijuana when he was young. Paiz said that everything went downhill after he exchanged Instagram handles with Liam. “I regret now giving Liam my Instagram because it all spiraled from there. If I hadn’t, I’d probably be working today, I’d be studying, and I’d be doing videos because before meeting Liam, I’d participated in the filming of a video clip for YouTube for a singer and other videos for TV.”

He’s clearly struggling with the weight of what’s happened, saying he misses his old life, his work, his family, especially his mom and sisters. “All I want to do is start studying again and leave jail to work, like I was doing before,” he added.

The Liam Payne drug trial has also seen some names cleared. Charges were dropped back in February for three others originally implicated, Payne’s friend Rogelio Nores, hotel receptionist Esteban Grassi, and head of security Gilda Martin. They were released after prosecutors found no sufficient evidence linking them to the direct supply of drugs or involvement in the events that led to the singer’s death.

Still, the focus now squarely rests on Paiz and Pereyra, whose trial could begin any day now. While no exact court date has been announced yet, Argentine authorities have confirmed the wheels are in motion. The upcoming proceedings are expected to shine a light on how a global pop icon ended up spiraling into drug use so severe it cost him his life.

The trial has reignited discussions around celebrity addiction and the vulnerability stars face behind the glam. Just months before his death, Liam had opened up in interviews about his struggles with alcohol and mental health. Fans believed he was on the path to recovery, especially after going quiet and focusing on personal healing. So when news broke that he had died in a drug-fueled fall, it came as a complete shock.

The official narrative that’s emerged paints a heartbreaking picture. Liam was using heavy substances just moments before he fell from that balcony, and while it’s still unclear whether it was accidental or something darker, what’s certain is that the drugs played a fatal role.

Now, as Paiz and Pereyra face the consequences of their alleged actions, the world is left mourning a talent gone too soon. Whether or not they are found guilty of selling the drugs that contributed to Liam’s death, their involvement in his final hours will forever be a haunting part of the story.

The trial is more than just a legal proceeding, it’s a tragic reminder of how fame and addiction can collide in the worst ways. And until justice is served, fans and loved ones are still searching for closure in a loss that felt far too sudden.
