How is Gants Hill London for a stay?

This trip of ours to London was long awaited and naturally we were quite excited. And it was to be a longish trip of almost two weeks spread over two phases. With a bit of Europe added in between after ten days there. The direct flight from New Delhi reached dot on time but immigration took quite a while. And by the time we boarded the underground at Heathrow it was 9.30 PM. Our destination Gants Hill London, an East London neighborhood where we were putting up with our brother and his lovely wife. After two hours we were at home as we looked forward to enjoying our next few days in London.

Gants Hill neighborhood

Gants Hill is a quiet and posh residential area of Ilford considered to be more for the affluent. The underground station here on the central line provides good connectivity for residents and visitors. The roundabout where we are standing right now debuted in 1928 and the area around urbanized quickly. It has since been a thriving multicultural area with a suburban feel.

There are many lovely parks around in the neighborhood. You can take a short walk through one of them to reach Ilford station on the Great Eastern Main line. And you get a lot of connections from there as well apart from the underground.

What’s around

The square which is a junction of five roads has all that you would require. Shopping malls, restaurants, bars, breakfast joints and your daily necessities including ATMs and also a lovely library. Our favorite breakfast joint on days we were skipping one at home was Gants Hill Cafe for their English breakfast & coffee.

As you take the walk along the highway to Ilford station you would find a number of hotels. They are nice and small privately managed properties and are very reasonably priced.

Valentines Park

One of the best part of our stay during this visit and another a year later was Valentines Park. We were there in the mornings, early afternoons, lunch time and also in the evenings at times. And London parks are fascinating places to spend hours just relaxing and enjoying nature. There was another park that we spend time in later on. But that was a complete day out in The Regent’s Park, a beautiful destination once again.

Beautiful nature, lake & flowers

The calming presence of ducks & swans

As we kept going back again & again

A great place for a long walk

And exercise a while

The cute cafe for breakfast & tea

And Musical Sundays with lunch
